Spur of the Moment Reflections

I passed the start line. October 14, 2012

Well… I passed the start line.
The first 6-7 miles the tempo wasn’t too shabby. Then the hills started…

Mile 8 I turn to my iPhone to turn on some trigger music.
The phone dies on me!
Mile 10 my knees start to really hurt. I’m speed walking – feels much better.

Mile 11 comes one cheer zone with Michael Jackson music Beat it! – and I suddenly run faster than after start line ?!?! until I can’t hear the music.
Finished strong.

My image of the San Francisco Fire Fighters was misleading. But they were classy in tuxedo.
The post finish line massage was nice!
Late lunch with runner friends and supporters super nice.

Ice bath was not as bad as I imagined it.
I hope it makes magic and that I can walk down the stairs tomorrow. Sorry knees – will prepare you better next time.

And even if it’s misty and foggy, I’ll wear sun screen next time.

And, dear iPhone – I may have taken an hour longer to run this race than 10 years ago – but I’ve got more juice than you’ve got! And seriously – we gotta change that, partner!

After all, 3.08hrs for 13.1 miles given circumstances, is quite ok.
Seeing those t-shirts with mom and dad on, in a race fundraising for Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer, makes it real.
I hope it makes a difference.

A #NMW12 finisher.

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme… October 6, 2012

Went to the best concert last night. More about that later. We started singing on the way home in the car. With this one song, the lyrics didn’t really come to mind, more than the title section… “Gimme Gimme Gimme….” Do you remember?

So, what would we do without google, or youtube?!

Found it! And I later found myself this morning, brushing my teeth, with the iPhone earphone plugged into my ears, door closed, brushing in rhythm, singing along in my mind, and dancing away – remembering the year of… 1985.

No, it is not ABBA – this time. Here it is:

Wohoo! So good! 🙂 No? I actually think it was the year when I was in 3rd grade, one too low to go to the “Mellan stadie disco” for grade 4-6 in the Parkhem School. Without false ID (:O – no, we didn’t even know what that was) – I did go. And came in. And I won the dance competition with the comment “Lillen vinner”. The kid wins.

Young grows old, small grows tall, and these days… the big ones are the winners. LLXLLQ – need no more. The size is a plus!

Enjoy,

Johanna

All or Nothing. September 8, 2012

If you want to get your venture done – it’s all or noting. If you start a crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter – it’s all or nothing. Either you reach the finish line – or you don’t. Either you receive all the funds – or none.

The benefits of supporting a Kickstarter project? Well, let me give you an example…

Jazz singers and performers

Nicolas Bearde and Bobby McFerrin

These are two great local musicians in the Bay Area, Nicolas Bearde and Bobby McFerrin, normally singing together in the Bobby McFerrin’s renowned vocal ensemble “Voicestra” as well as having their own solo careers. I am going to have a vocal class on stage presence and performance technique with one of them! And receive an Autographed Pre-Launch CD. For $100. Why? As a “Thank you” for supporting the production of the next CD?!?!

Who should thank who?

Anyone else signing up? Check it out! You might prefer a different bonus… (House concert, catered dinner with entertainment, concert tickets, CDs and more).

Click here for the latest update I received from the #YouAreSensational campaign this morning.

So… either Nicolas Bearde reaches his finish line – or I don’t get my vocal session! :O Please like, share and or pledge if you would like to support this. Every act counts. – Thank you!

What does music mean to you? Just saying… oh yes – here is the address: http://kck.st/N0h9X4.

To me? I think music is the beat of love and life. Something to support and enjoy.

Things often come in three. That is a good thing. Do you want me to share?

  1. The lioness speaks. Yes, there is one such. At Ideas From The Heart. What she speaks about I can’t say yet, but check it out for yourself… http://bit.ly/IFTHJune2012.
  2. The lioness runs. Join the routine – just started, and intended such – running the Lyon Street Steps 5 mornings of the week. It feels like the Lion’s Stairs.
  3. The lioness sings. Or someone else may sing the Lioness Hunt. Come let us sing for you! My a cappella group Keeva performs tomorrow night:
The Richter Scales, Rapid Transit, and Keeva A Cappella in concert! Three sets of 30 minutes each. $10 at the door includes all the drinks and Mother’s Circus Animals you want. Doors open at 7:15PM. Singing starts at 8:00PM. Be there!http://rapidtransitacappella.com/

American Idol Fatigue… and Swedish Euphoria May 27, 2012

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard them talking about the ongoing series of American Idol. The view numbers are decreasing, and they claimed an American Idol fatigue – the number of artists having performed the same covers starts to be too many. It’s not new any longer.

I know what might be the next big thing. It’s recently been pitched in Sweden. And I won’t say more. Just yet. Can’t wait for it to be created and cross the boarders.

What is similar to American Idol, and is still going strong, is the Eurovision Song Contest. The difference is that the artists participating compete with a new original song, representing their country, voted by the countries and the populations. I wouldn’t say that it is as ingrained in our Swedish culture to watch the national Melodifestivalen, leading up the Eurovision Song Contest Final, as it is to watch Donald Duck 3pm Christmas Eve – but very close.

Here in the U.S., a Norwegian friend hosts an annual party the evening of the final with a replay of the event. Norway won 3 years ago. There are clear and strong instructions to stay out of Social Media and news, so that we don’t know who the winner is… With the new feature of starred Facebook friends, and automatic notifications of their updates on my phone, I didn’t succeed to avoid my cousins shout out real time in Sweden… but it was fun to watch.

There is a sweet rivalry going on in-between Sweden and Norway – but they didn’t deserve to fall that far down the list…

And here is the winning song, “Euphoria” with Loreen from Sweden.

Enjoy,

Johanna

Lyrics: Euphoria
Why, why can’t this moment last forevermore?
Tonight, tonight eternity’s an open door…
No, don’t ever stop doing the things you do.
Don’t go, in every breath I take I’m breathing you…
EuphoriaForever, ’till the end of time
From now on, only you and I
We’re going up-up-up-up-up-up-up
Euphoria An everlasting piece of art
A beating love within my heart
We’re going up-up-up-up-up-up-up
We are here, we’re all alone in our own Universe,
We are free, where everything’s allowed and love comes first,
Forever and ever together, we sail into infinity,
We’re higher and higher and higher, we’re reaching for divinity.
Euphoria
Forever, ’till the end of time
From now on, only you and I
We’re going up-up-up-up-up-up-up
Euphoria
An everlasting piece of art
A beating love within my heart
We’re going up-up-up-up-up-up-up
Forever we sail into infinity,
We’re higher, we’re reaching for divinity…
Euphoria, euphoria
We’re going up-up-up-up-up-up-up
Euphoria….An everlasting piece of art
A beating love within my heart
We’re going up-up-up-up-up-up-up
Euphoria, euphoria
We’re going up-up-up-up-up-up-up

It Makes Me Feel Love April 11, 2012

…what is it that you love that would bring your voice and life back should you be in this position?

For me – music, yoga, dance. If you ever see me with my head down – that would lift me up. And even if I know it, it is easy to forget. Even without Alzheimer.

It’s not a coincident that I together with Emma,  my partner in crime in a Co-Active Leadership Program, created a workshop called “Dance to the voice of your core”.

May we never forget. Put on the music and get movin’! Do you feel that spring is in the air?! 😉

Enjoy,

Johanna

AND DO SEE this movie. To the end. – The full article is in today’s Mashable.

Love is in the air. Do do do, do do do….

Light Will Guide You Home August 3, 2011

July 22, 2011. A day we will never forget. A day that made us all feel like Norwegians.

July 23, 2011. A day that made it even worse. When we understood the scope of it all. And couldn’t understand at all.

That day I went to Katrineholm in Sweden, for a unplugged concert with Anna Bergendahl. Sending love to Norway, she sang this song: “Fix you”. This Sunday she was in the morning news and performed the same song that I just found on Tv4 Play. Read more and play it here.

“Light will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.”

Music heals. Music moves. When you feel sad, sorrow… or happy. Music can change the world, because it can change people.

If this will impact just one of you who reads or listens in a positive way – that would make me happy.

Light will guide you home,

Johanna

I am sharing this song because I think it is beautiful, and beautifully sang by an artist I think who’s journey you would enjoy to follow from the early years. The only piece I would remove is the “fix you” part. I don’t think anyone need or should be “fixed”. But that is a minor detail. It is just the name of the song…

Londoners: What are you listening to? July 10, 2011

Coming back to Sweden and being able to listen to Spotify made me ask around for friends music favorites. I can’t say that I got a whole lot of input. Sometimes it is like that. If you are really curious, and if you really are looking for inspiration or an answer to something – keep looking, keep asking. Ask people you wouldn’t normally ask. You may be surprised. You may get an answer you absolutely did not expect. You may get a very different perspective. You may get to know a different side of the person you are asking.

Listen to the answers people gave in London – would you have expected?

I am just saying: Music rock, ABBA rock, you rock. Go find whatever answer you are looking for. The one who searches he shall find…

Enjoy the process 😉

The World of Music June 16, 2011

YEAY! Got my Spotify back playing again. Can’t wait for it’s launch in the US.

So, in the world of music – with 13 million tracks to choose from  – which one would you love to play? I.e. which one would you add to my Summer 2011 playlist?

Music is joy. Wanna give me some? 😉 I might be able to share it… I know you are supposed to be able to… The playlist that is.

My Spotify is right now playing Crazy by Seal from the album Live in Paris. Do you agree that:

“In a world full of people, only some want to fly,
Isn’t that crazy?

But, we’re never gonna survive
unless we get a little crazy…”?

If so, what will you do today that is a little, just a little, unreasonable?  😉

Bring it on. Enjoy,

Johanna
